Riverside University Health System (RUHS) – Medical Center is one of the top hospitals in the nation for maternity care, according to rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

RUHS - Medical Center earned a High Performing designation – the highest award – on the magazine’s 2024 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). The recognition is based on objective quality measures such as rates of C-sections in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complications, exclusive breastfeeding and early elective delivery, as well as birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.

“This achievement is a testament to the quality care our patients receive every day from our highly trained and dedicated team,” said Dr. Bryan Oshiro, Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at RUHS. “Our nurses, obstetricians, pharmacists, neonatologists, anesthesiologists and specialists are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy birth for our pregnant patients.”

U.S. News evaluated hospitals from across the nation that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication for analysis; 680 hospitals, an all-time high, participated in this year’s survey. Fewer than half – 46% – of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.

More than 1,400 babies are delivered annually at RUHS – Medical Center, which recently unveiled newly remodeled, private rooms for mothers and their newborns. The hospital is designated as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by Baby Friendly USA for upholding the highest standards of birthing and successful practices in breastfeeding in the country.

The hospital’s renowned maternal-fetal medicine program provides care for high-risk pregnancies. RUHS also has a 32-bed, Level III neonatal intensive care unit delivering high-tech, high-quality care to sick babies as young as 23 weeks gestation.
