Michelle DeArmond has served as Supervisor Washington's chief of staff since late 2018 and has worked for the County of Riverside since 2010. Prior to joining the Third District team, Michelle ran the County of Riverside Office of Foreign Trade and managed Workforce Development Centers for the County of Riverside Economic Development Agency. She also served for almost seven years as chief of staff for Supervisor John J. Benoit in eastern Riverside County.
Michelle oversees the Third District staff and budget. She also serves as the liaison to the County Executive Office and County Counsel along with tribal governments, special districts and the media.
Prior to working in the County of Riverside, Michelle had an extensive career starting as a journalist for the world’s largest news organization. Michelle worked as a journalist in the Midwest, Las Vegas and Southern California. While working for The Associated Press in Los Angeles, Michelle became known for her expertise in political and tribal government issues. The final phase of Michelle’s journalism career was at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, where she covered politics and tribal governments in Riverside and San Bernardino counties and won a number of awards. Michelle lectures occasionally at the Claremont Graduate University’s Tribal Administration Certificate Program and is a board member for Susan G. Komen Inland Empire.
Michelle is the proud mother of Gabrielle and Maya and wife to Bill, a small-business owner.
